KRISHNA

(West Java's Sundanese ethnic style, adaptation of Hindu epic Mahabharata)

The eighth avatar of the supreme God Vishnu and The Preserver.

Krishna has become an important and popular focus of the devotional aspect of Hindu. He was the eighth avatar of God Vishnu, the supreme god. Traditional belief based on scriptural details and astrological calculation gives Krishna’s birth date as 19th July 3228 BC. Awareness of the distress on earth and willingness to diminish it became the reason for the incarnation of God Vishnu.

When revealing his divine identity to Arjun, Krishna said:

Whenever truth deteriorates and evil spreads, I will reincarnate.

To save the good and to destroy the bad, and to reinforce the truth, I will reincarnate from time to time.

I am the Highest Spirit staying in all living creatures.

I am the beginning, the middle and the end of all creatures

Krishna was of the royal family of Mathura kingdom and a leading prince at the court, the then king of Dwaraka. He married Rukmini, the incarnation of Vishnu’s eternal consort, Goddess Lakshmi.

During the Kurukshetra war, Krishna was at the side with the Pandavas to be their advisor. Even though he had taken the vow of not actually fighting in the war, he was instrumental in bringing about the Pandavas’ victory. At the end of the war, the bitterly angry mother of the Kauravas after witnessing the death of her sons accused Krishna of not doing enough to stop the war. Krishna stated that his duty was not to prevent the war, but to bring about victory for the righteous side.

According to references, it had been interpreted that Krishna died around 3100 BC.
